Celebrating Halloween in the Classroom.
The Top 3 Must-Haves Based on Grade Level.

Bringing kids together for a party usually means it's time to get a few organized games ready, especially when you expect everyone to be revved up from excitement and candy.  Each school has their own rules and standards to follow and be sure to consider the ages of the children when you select the suitability of the games. Then go ahead and have a howling good time!

PreK, Kindergarden and 1st Grade.
  1. Pumpkin Penny Toss Game - carve a pumpkin with a large opening at top. For every penny that gets into the pumpkin, the child gets a piece of candy.
  2. Picture Bingo Game
  3. Halloween Costume Dress UP

Grade 2 - Grade 4.
  1. Creepy Boxes. Carve holes in the sides of a large box, big enough for little hands. The lid goes back on when you're done so kids can't see what they're about to touch. Then arrange to have something gross for them to touch when they reach in, like wet spagetti noodles for intestines, egg yolks for eyeballs, etc.
  2. Candy and more candy.
  3. Charades & Pictionary Game

Grade 5 - Grade 6.
  1. Mummy Wrap Relay Game - divide into groups of 3-4 and give each group a roll of toilet paper. The object of the game is to be the first group to wrap one of their teammates into mummy using the entire roll of tissue.
  2. Creepy food, like worms floating in the punch, cookies that look like fingers, etc.
  3. Halloween Picture Puzzle Game

When a Child's Classroom Doesn't Celebrate Halloween.

Fall brings many things, including a whole bunch of holidays rich in history, crafts and tradition. Even if a child's classroom doesn't celebrate Halloween, they can most likely host an October Fall Celebration or an Autumn Celebration.

Need another reason to celebrate in October? Here are some more holidays you'll find this month:

  • October 2 - Yom Kippur (the Jewish Day of Atonement)
  • October 9 - Canadian Thanksgiving Day, American Columbus Day, Leif Erikson Day (a tribute to Viking  Explorers)
  • October 21 - Sweetest Day (think of Valentines Day, take two)
  • October 24 - United Nations Day
